Gadhafi's talk of nationalizing Libyan oil dismissed by U.S. majors
WASHINGTON Ñ Major U.S. energy firms are unaffected by
Libya's warning to nationalize its oil sector.
U.S. executives said the threats by Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi
appeared to be directed for domestic consumption. They said Gadhafi's
remarks had little significance amid the sharp decline in the price of crude
oil.
"A year ago, everybody would be scared," an executive said. "But today,
it's a buyer's market."

The executives said U.S. companies, led by ExxonMobil, did not expect
disruptions in energy exploration and development programs in 2009.
Tripoli,
however, has been pressuring such U.S. oil companies as ConocoPhillips, Hess
and Marathon Oil to reduce their production share in at least one major
energy project in the North African state, Middle East Newsline reported.
