The International Atomic Energy Agency reported last week that if terrorists attack the August Olympic games in Beijing it could be with a radiological or “dirty” bomb.

Anita Nilsson, head of nuclear security at the IAEA, told the BBC that the agency is helping China with training for security at the games.

While there is no specific threat of nuclear-related attacks, she said there is intelligence that terrorists have sought to procure radioactive material. "There is a threat at some level that these materials could be used," she said.

"The awareness that these materials do exist in circulation is enough in itself to trigger the measures that we are now working together with the Chinese authorities to implement at the major venues of the Beijing Olympics."

China has been accused of fabricating a planned terrorist attack, U.S. officials said. The fake attack is believed to be part of security operations by Chinese intelligence to try and preempt any attacks.
