As Turkish invasion looms, Kurds in northern Iraq ink foreign oil deals
BAGHDAD — The autonomous Iraqi Kurdish government, under threat of
Turkish invasion, has signed seven energy contracts with foreign companies.
The Regional Kurdish Government said the seven contracts were meant to
boost production of crude oil and natural gas in northern Iraq.

India's Reliance, Austria's OMV and Hungary's MOL were awarded energy
contracts. The additional contracts were awarded to the new state-owned
Kurdistan Exploration and Production Co, Middle East Newsline reported. Officials said five additional
tenders were ready to be decided.
"These contracts are a major step towards the Kurdistan region's goal of
increasing oil production to one million barrels per day," KRG energy
official Ashti Hawrami said. "There will be more announcements soon."
The Kurdish
government said it also awarded an additional four contracts to a new
state-owned company.
