LONDON Ñ British security firms are hiring former commandos in projects in Iraq.

The firms have been recruiting a range of former members from British elite units that have fought in Africa and Asia. The units include the SAS.

Olive Security has hired more than 100 former SAS members for projects in Iraq, Middle East Newsline reported. The company provides security and prepares studies on logistics for the British forces in southern Iraq.

The British company has also been working with the U.S. firm Bechtel, a major partner in the reconstruction of Iraq and authorized to rebuild the Iraqi electricity network. Olive has sent 38 former SAS soldiers to Iraq to establish operations for Bechtel.

"This is crisis management in a hostile environment," Olive marketing manager Harry Legge-Bourke said. "You need people who know what they are doing."
