ABU DHABI Ñ The United States is warning of the prospect of Islamic
insurgency attacks against American citizens.
U.S. officials said the State Department has obtained new intelligence
information that warned of an impending attack on American citizens or
installations in the Persian Gulf and the Arabian Peninsula. The officials
said the focus of the alert is Kuwait.
The alert warns of an Arab or Islamic attack on U.S. interests to
protest the escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian war. The war has continued
for more than 10 months and over the weekend Israel closed several
facilities of the Palestinian Authority.
The U.S. embassy in Kuwait issued an alert over the weekend. The embassy
warned Americans to maintain a low profile and avoid being caught up in
demonstrations in the sheikdom.
The alert was the third over the last four months. The one issued by the
U.S. embassy warned of anti-American demonstrations throughout the Gulf.
