Israel again declines to respond as car bomb wounds 8

TEL AVIV — Palestinians struck another Israeli city, detonating the fourth bomb in less than 36 hours.

The latest target was in the Tel Aviv suburb of Or Yehuda. Authorities said eight Israelis were wounded in the attack on Monday. The bomb exploded in a stolen car near Ben-Gurion international airport.

Israel did not respond to the latest bombing nor did it respond to two bombing incidents Sunday. Instead, Israeli and Palestinian Authority security officials met on Monday evening to discuss the reduction of their mini-war in the West Bank.

"It is a miracle but only two people have been wounded — by shock — and not from other things," Tel Aviv police commander Yossi Sedbon said.

The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine has claimed responsibility for the attack. In Gaza, Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat said he did not support the bombing.

"Without doubt, we do not agree with any operation against any civilian, Palestinian or Israeli," Arafat said.

Hours after the Or Yehuda bombing, Palestinian gunners opened machine-gun fire at the southern Jerusalem neighborhood of Gilo in the first day-light attack on the city in months. Nobody was hurt. Israeli military units did not respond.
