GAZA — The Gaza Strip came under siege as Israeli troops searched for an Israeli believed kidnapped by the Palestinians.

The Israeli, identified as Roni Salah, a Jewish settler from the southern Gaza Strip, was abducted on Sunday. He was believed to have been brought to an area under Palestinian control.

A Jewish settlement leader, Aharon Tsur, said he has information that Salah remains alive and is being held in the Palestinian Authority. It was the first time since the outbreak of the mini-war in late September that an Israeli was abducted by Palestinians. Israeli troops closed roads in the southern Gaza Strip.

Israeli helicopters and troops searched the southern Gaza Strip on late Sunday. Israeli officials warned the PA not to harm the abducted Israeli.
