NICOSIA [MENL] -- An Indonesian maid has become the latest convicted
murderer beheaded in Saudi Arabia.
The Saudi Interior Ministry said Warni Samiran Awdi, the maid, was
convicted of killing her employer's wife. The wife was beaten with an iron
pipe.
The ministry said Ms. Awdi was executed in the eastern Saudi city of
Ahsa.
Saudi authorities have executed 60 people this year. Last year, about
100 people were beheaded.
Foreigners comprise about two-thirds of those who were beheaded. Saudi
Arabia has six million foreigners, a third of the population.
Human rights organizations have condemned the beheadings and said they
follow unfair trials.
