RAMALLAH — Palestinian refugees are being encouraged to communicate through the Internet.

The campaign is being administered by the Across Borders Project, which has established Internet centers in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and Lebanon. The latest opening will be launched on Sept. 30 in the Burj Shamali refugee camp in Tyre.

The other two are in the Dehaishe camp south of Bethlehem and in Khan Yunis in Gaza. Funding has come from Britain, Canada and private donors.

The effort will also include the launching of a comprehensive camp-based website created by refugees as well as computer training.

Bir Zeit University has been appointed manager of the project. The university said it will oversee the opening and operation of five additional computer centers.

These comprise two in the West Bank, two in Gaza and one in Jordan. Australia will help fund the project.
