Robert J. Morton is a newspaper journalist specializing in foreign news and alternative media platforms. He helped launch The Washington Times National Weekly Edition in 1994. He is the first and only editor of the publication, which then House Speaker Newt Gingrich described as a leading example of the "New Media".
A former correspondent based in Tokyo during the late 1970s, Mr. Morton obtained a Masters in Journalism from the University of Texas at Austin. While a Media Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University in 1998, he decided to launch World Tribune.com, the first U.S. news site dedicated to international news and a leading online destination for geostrategic coverage.
Mr. Morton serves as Managing Editor of The Washington Times National Weekly Edition and President of East West Services, Inc. which publishes World Tribune.com , Geostrategy-Direct.com and East-Asia-Intel.com.
Previous posts include Editor in Chief of the New York City Tribune which during the 1980s won numerous honors including first place awards by the National Press Club and Investigative Reporters and Editors. During his tenure, the newspaper launched the first weekly newspaper column by then Mayor Ed Koch and broke hundreds of news exclusives including an investigative series in 1984 about Democratic Vice Presidential candidate Geraldine Ferraro's husband and his links to a Manhattan building described by police as an organized crime controlled distribution center of pornography. He also launched and served as Managing Editor of the Global Affairs quarterly and publisher of the Free Press International Report, a bi-weekly newsletter on geostrategic affairs.
