NICOSIA — Hizbullah’s communications manager has
defected to Israel, Lebanese sources said.
The sources said Hussein Fahes escaped Lebanon for Israel with $5
million earlier this month, Middle East Newsline reported.

Hizbullah’s CFO has fled to Israel, taking with him a large sum of stolen money, classified documents and maps, Lebanese news media reported on Oct. 12. /Al Arabiya
The sources said Fahes had been suspected of working with
Israeli intelligence and was interrogated by Hizbullah in September.
“Fahes escaped to Israel soon after his arrest,” a source said. “Details
have not been determined.”
The sources identified Fahes as a 29-year-old telecommunications
engineer who had resided in southern Lebanon. They said Fahes had been assigned to establish and operate Hizbullah’s communications networks.
Lebanon’s Al Jumhuriya daily said Fahes had been one of five arrested by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on suspicion of working for Israel.
The newspaper said Fahes was arrested as he traveled to Beirut’s international airport. Israel has not responded to the report.
The sources said more than 100 Lebanese were arrested since 2009 on
charges of spying on Hizbullah for Israel. On Oct. 9, a Lebanese military
judge, Imad Zein, issued warrants for eight Lebanese charged with working
for Israeli intelligence.
